Darby Delano Dennis Jr, the son of the late Ida Bryant and the late Darby Dennis Sr, was born on Oct 6, 1949 at Ohio Valley Hospital in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. And on the morning of September 12, 2023 God sent an angel to UPMC Western Maryland Hospital in Cumberland, Maryland to bring his child home.
In his youth, Darby's athletic prowess shone brightly as he excelled in multiple sports, earning letters of recognition in many different sports while attending West Allegheny High School where he graduated in 1967. Throughout life his love for baseball never faded as he continued to play in various community leagues well into his senior years in Cumberland. His competitive spirit extended to the chessboard, where he enjoyed many friendly battles in the park as well as online. He greatly enjoyed teaching any willing student the game of chess.
After being honorably discharged from the Army in 1969, Darby worked in the accounting department at the Heinz corporation. He went on to spend the remainder of his work life in maintenance/facilities, showcasing his dedication and exceptional work ethic. Darby spent the sunset of his career working in the maintenance department of the Allegany County school system in Cumberland, Maryland.
Beyond his achievements, Darby was a man of Christian faith whose beliefs provided him with strength and solace throughout his life. His kindness, generosity, and warm heart left an impression on all who were fortunate enough to know him. His legacy lives on in the countless lives he touched, the games he played, and the faith he held dear.
Darby was preceded in death by: his parents Ida and Darby Sr, his brothers and sisters (Donnie Lane, Esmee Robinson, Delores Thompkins, Ernest Myrick, Cora Willis Henderson), and his niece (Valerie Smith).
Darby is survived by his daughter, Carmen Hardy (Ralph) and twins Tyron and Tyrae Brewer, his brothers (Leroy Rawlings, Henry Pettus, Alfonso Dennis, and Paul Covington), his nieces and nephew (Miriam Pierce, Pam Thompkins, Charles Christy, Sharon Bonner (Jeffrey) and Sonya Bolling .... and a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends who will carry on his memory with love and Pride. Public viewing will be held Saturday, October 7, 2023 from 11:30 until time of Homegoing Celebration 1 pm both held at Pneuma Worship Center
